Rock Mill held an open house today and will have one on most Wednesdays until August 17. It was nice to see the inside and get pictures with all of the windows open. The water wheel is operating now as well. Plans for the summer include getting the gearing set up to actually grind grain.

I had to take Jessica into Columbus today, so we stopped up at Inniswood for a bit. This is part of the hidden garden.

I am working on a book project for the Y-city writers, so this evening Mike and I went to Zanesville to take pictures of the Y-Bridge. There is a stop light in the middle of the bridge so you can turn right or left to continue across the confluence of the Licking and Muskingum Rivers.

A little bit of a different look for me, but the hIgh-key lighting treatment seemed to work for these snapdragon flowers.

It was a beautiful day for most of the day, but of course I waited too long and I was out in the rain getting flowers. The raindrops always do add a nice texture though.

While I was taking pictures of my dayliles, I ran across two of these. The first one I saw had a small white moth in its grips. He ran off quickly as I pointed my camera in his face. This one turned away but hesitated enough for me to get a shot. I love how the eyes seem to look backwards at me. The Daylily pictures will have to wait for another day.

This little damselfly seemed to have no idea what lurked below. Luckily for it, it was a harmless cicada shell.

For my first 365 project I took a picture of Jessica's bird with a backdrop of some of her art. She has a new bird now, and some new art. I think I like this one better.

I took this macro of a penny and the ring light gave it this silver color. I tried a natural light picture, but this one seems more interesting to me.

First Black-eye susan of the summer. Of course it was growing in the driveway...Why do they always have to be the first to bloom?

Lots of plant are starting to bloom in the yard. Good thing since I've been stuck at home these past few days. Looking forward to a good hike tomorrow.

A wild rose blooms along the new portion of the Buckeye trail at Boch Hollow SNP. We got a special preview with a through hike of the preserves 4.2 miles of the Buckeye trail. While an exact date has not been set, the Buckeye trail through the park is expected to open to the general public in late summer or early fall. Meanwhile you can visit and hike the 3 mile loop trails that run through the park.

Out after dark with the flashlight, after a day at the Gallery. I had a few different varieties of Rudbeckia including a very dark red called Brandywine. I am wondering if maybe this one is the result of a cross as the petals seem to have some reddish tint. I will have to kep an eye on it see what color it is when it is in full bloom.

I had initially thought that only my swamp Milkweed had survived the winter, but I noticed these growing a few weeks ago. Their blooms are finally open.

This is the same flower from a few days ago, now open. I don't know if this is a cross from last years plants if a plant from the seed mix I put out a few years ago is just blooming for the first time.

I had heard that Shasta Daisy's were invasive, but then I had also heard them called Ox-Eye Daisy, so I decided to research it a bit when I saw these blooming today. Both the Shasta and Ox-eye Daisy are not native to the U.S.A., but only the Ox-Eye Daisy is considered to be an invasive species. For once, it appears that I actually have the "good kind."

I was out pulling weeds today when I ran across these. I don't even remember planting them. No sign of my Stargazer lilies though.

A pretty little flower from a distance, up close I found the yarrow flowers were sort of splotchy and inconsistent. A full flower had 5 petals, but many of them had 3 or 4, and even the centers seemed inconsistent.

Today we visited the Moonville tunnel along the Moonville Rail Trail. Additional pictures from our trip can be found on my website.

Lots of flowers are blooming now at the Butterfly Garden at Howell Park in Bremen. It was a bit windy and the rain had just stopped when I got there so the butterflies were still in hiding. I will have to make a trip back when it is drier to get butterfly pictures.

Down at the Bremen butterfly garden it was very hot. There were no butterflies in sight today, but there were a few bees.

Out at Airplane rock today, this bumblee bee made his way to this flower just as I was getting ready to take a picture of it. I had time for one shot.

These are blooming in the wildflower garden. It's nice to have some variety in the Black-eyed Susans for a change.
