One of the flowers from myBleeding Heart fell off. My daughter asked if she could disect it. I came back in to find this laid out on the table.

This little girl was hanging out with two boys today down at Lake Logan in between rains.
I planted this Iris 2 years ago and it didn't bloom last year. The package listed it as an Orange re-blooming Iris. This view does make it look orange, but overall I think the flowers are more brown than orange. Even so, it was the first of my Iris to bloom this year(not including the bulb Iris that bloomed back in early March).
Today I learned that taking a picture of a Forget-Me-Not is very difficult. It is a very tiny flower and for some reason I had a very hard time getting a decent focus. Here's my best shot.
Today at the bird hike we saw and heard a lot of birds. None were close enough for a decent picture. I did find this interesting caterpillar I thought was so pretty crawling through the grass. After looking on-line I believe it is an eastern tent caterpillar. Who knew they could be so pretty. Interestingly I found this one on the ground near where we were watching a pair of Cukoos. My first Dragonfly picture of the season. This guy was resting on a wood fence at Wahkeena. I only got one chance at a picture. When I moved the camera around to try and get his face it flew off. I can't find it in the ID book...so if you know what it is let me know.
My purple iris are now blooming. It was interesting taking a close look at the structure of the flower. It is almost like three separate flowers coming out together from one base. This is a bee's eye view down the throat of the flower.
The lupine is in bloom down at Howell Park. This one is just getting started and enjoying the rain.

While considered an invasive species in some areas, I still love to see this plant blooming. It also has a nice scent. I try not to encourage it, but it thrives without any. I noticed this variegated flower among the purple today. This plant can occur in various shades from purple to white. I guess this one hasn't made up its mind yet.
I've never really looked at CoralBells up close. They actually have a pretty interesting flower structure.
I have been working to get ready for my next show, and I needed a different print rack that could display several sizes of prints, greeting Cards and my business card. Of course I couldn't find one, so I made one. Here is the finished product all stocked up and go for the Show that starts May 21st and runs through the 30th at the Bowen House in Logan, OH.

Ok, so I know these are Michigan colors, but I don't think Irises come in gray.
This was taken during the MPPC field trip to the Hocking hills. I usually don't want to get my feet wet, so the only previous picture I have of this falls was when it was dry last summer. On Friday the water was low enough that I could cross pretty easily on some rocks that had been lined up.
This is listed on the endangered species list. At one time it was thought extinct. Once people started looking for it they have been finding more populations and some believe it no longer needs to be listed.
I saw several shells today and one set of wings. It seems the birds must be keeping them in check around here so far.
We took a long hike at Scioto trail State Park. Just because the trail is on the map doesn't mean the Park Service of Forest Service will maintain it. We tried to do a loop back and found ourselves walking in the road and in tall grass and brush for part of the trip. We flushed out a turkey in the "trail" which was neat, but I also brought home several hitchhikers (ticks) from the woods. This CIcada was just sitting on a leaf as we walked a forested part of the trail.
I planted these a few years ago. Every year I transplant all the little seedlings back into the garden edge.

The cicadas seemed to like this particular Dames Rocket plant. I saw quite a few of them while I was mowing today.
This cave in the Hocking HIlls is also know as 21 Horses cave because it is supposedly big enough to fit 21 horses inside. This impressive sandstone structure is off of the trail at the Rapelling Area Parking in Big Pine Road.
Yesterday while hiking in the Hocking Forest we found the wings of a Tiger swallow tail. This is a macro of a very small portion of the lower wing. Tomorrow I may try and get the whole thing.
Last night we found a cicada emerging from its shell. We watched it and I took pictures for a time lapse until well after midnight...so here is today's picture.
There is something sort of facinating about the structure of a Dandelion seed head.
The Lake was pretty busy today. With the start of summer the beach was full, people were boating, and some people fishing managed to scare off the only Heron that I saw. I did find pink water lilies growing along the shore. It probably won't be long before they take over, but for now they are pretty.
