We have had a strange winter in Ohio this year. Our last significant snowfall was back in December, and February felt more like spring than winter. In late February and early March it is pretty normal to see a few species blooming. My Hellebores were right on schedule, but we also have lots of other spring flowers making an appearance.
On the first of March, I went out to take a few pictures. My crocus and mini daffodils are usually the first to bloom and they were about two weeks earlier than normal, but the really strange thing is that my full size daffodils were also blooming and they are usually a few weeks later.
Even the Tulips have sent up flowers, although they are still a ways from blooming. The buds have broken on many of the trees and my Plum tree is starting to show the whites of its flowers. Last year the plum was the first to flower and we had 3 days of very cold snowy weather that killed most of the flowers. It still managed to set two plums.
Hopefully Mr. Groundhog was wrong and spring will stay with us now. It feels strange though, because we never really had a winter.
