I realized I haven’t added any thing new here in a while, so it’s time to fix that. I have been doing the 52Frames project all year and only a few of those shots have been put on here So I thought I would post them all together. I will update with the last 7 pictures as they are taken.
This is a self portrait for my 2020 52 project. I gathered materials that I use for my art.(I haven't met an art form that I didn't like...except for self portraits.LOL I will paint, sculpt, garden, cook, and sew, but nature photography has been my main focus for the past 5 years which is why the computer, camera lens, and nature books feature prominently in my photo. The shiny metal disk does offer a partial reflection of me as well. I've been waiting most of the week for a sunny day and today we finally had one.
This was a 10 second exposure with a bit of light painting with a flashlight to add some shine and brighten shadows. I then added a B+W treatment which I liked the look of better than color. I used the smallest aperture I had, but still had a bit more foreground blur than I wanted.
Summers flowers have faded, but they still make a nice bouquet in an old soda bottle. A bit messy as they shed their seed, but knowing they hold the promise of new flowers in the years to come makes it all the more beautiful. Asters, Golden rod, Autmn Sedum, Black eyed Susan, and even a sprig of poke weed. Long exposure lightpainting with a creative filter.
Always so curious and in your face. The only trick with this dog is trying to focus on him when he wants to be right on top of you.
Took a hike out to Christmas Rocks today where one of the earliest native wildflowers is blooming. Often it pushes up through the snow, but on this beautiful warm February day it had no need.
We haven't had much winter this winter, but Friday was one of those days. Luckily I forced myself to get out in it(with a little prodding from a friend) and it really was a beautiful day and a winter wonderland. #CampOtyokwa #winterwonderland #hockinghills #caves #waterfalls
I saw a tutorial of how to do this, and since I haven't had a lot of time this week to come up with a picture, this was a fun quick project. Now to figure out how to apply it to other things. Backlit open book with curved pages.
The Helebores have been blooming for a while, but with the huge temperature swings we have been having they are taking a bit of a beating.
So I took this one literally, as I was doing it last minute. This is the delayed progress on our upstairs renovation.
Yesterday there was a pileated woodpecker in the back yard. By the time I got my camera he had moved to the top of the hill, and of course once I raised my camera he was gone. It was nice to see him in my yard though.
Yesterday as the storm clouds moved through they parted briefly and I ran out to get this shot. I had a shot of "All the leaves are brown and the sky is Grey" but this one seemed more uplifting.
This plant has been growing in a pot at the edge of one of my gardens for three years now. I'm sure it has rooted into the ground through the pot, and I am almost afraid to move it now. Today it was full of curvy flowers on curved branches. #flowers #curves #bleedingheart #52frames_curves #52project
Taken from our deck down to the neighbors house below. I did have to do a focus stack to get everything in decent focus- so it sort of feels like cheating, but even at f/40 the depth of field wasn't good enough to make this work. I will have to play with this a bit more when the sun is brighter.
I went down to Lake Logan for a bit after shopping. This guy seemed content to hang out and fish while I watched. He was sucessful a couple of times in the short time I was there. 1/500 second exposure. #GBH #wildbirds #fishing #greatblueheron #birdwatching #lakelogan #ohioparks #wildlifephotography
My Pasque flower has been blooming this week. The soft fuzzyness of these blooms really stands out in the bright spring sun. #flower #pasqueflower #fuzzy #52frames #52project #pink #52frames_soft
A bit different than what I usually do, but I thought the light playing off the metal and through the holes was an interesting low key image. #lowkey #52frames #collander #brass
So the idea is to shoot like you are using film. I had some special visitors to the back yard so I really didn't count as I snapped my pictures. With wildlife you take what you can get and more shots is generally better, I did count afterwards and I shot 32 pictures, so I was within the 36 of a large roll of film. The shot I chose was number 26, although I had a nice shot of a white crowned sparrow(also a first for seeing in my yard) at number 11. I was so excited to see these guys in my yard - first Indigo Bunting I have seen here and the first time I have gotten a decent picture of them.
Not the most cooperative subject, but Cody would probably like flying.
Up close for a quick almost symmetrical shot. #symmetry #52frame_symmetry #pansy #flower #macro #52project
One last bloom on my Clematis plant still hanging on. #flower #clematis #52project #52frames
Didn't really have a subject for actual dancing. I was pretty sure Cody wouldn't cooperate for this one...so what else dances? #dandelions #dancing #52project #52Frames #52Frames_Dancing
My husband has a fountain pen addiction, so inky hands are pretty normal.
To make this background I used lego pieces and a small acrylic pour I had that looks sort of like storm clouds. The LEGO drone was suspended from a thread ans the lines were shopped out afterwards. The long shutter speed gave the drone a bit of blur to simulate flying. #LEGO #dronephotography #52frames #52project #acrylicpour #52project_
Long exposures in a dark room is a simple way to simplify the background. (This was taken in a room with yellow and white striped walls on a table full of clutter, but with a long exposure and lighting only the areas I wanted lit with a standard flash light it all goes away. #lightpainting #flowers #longexposure #lily #52project #52frames #52frames_flashlight #flashlight
So last week I forgot to post my picture. It was in my camera but I totally forgot about it. These flowers are growing in my garden. #flowers #52project #52frames #redgreen #red #green
Because I missed last week, I wasn't too concerned about staying on the topic this week (not one I was interested in). The Hocking Photo group took a trip to Bishop Educational Gardens and I got this male Blue Dasher Dragon fly resting on an unopened Lotus blossom.
Found this guy hanging out on the lillies earlier this week.
There were quite a few mushrooms sprouting up on the trail to Hidden Cave. #mushroom #52Frames #52project #inthewoods #52frames_negativespace #backgroundblur
I missed submitting my picture again. I don't know why I get so distracted. I guess I need to not wait till the last minute. LOL I had taken the picture this afternoon, and sat down at the computer after dinner, but before I knew it , it was after midnight. #focusstacked #52frames_water #52project #waterdrops #macro #orchid #lightpainting #forgetful
I haven't used my flashes much so I decided it was time to get them out. I also have never done a ballon pop picture, so that makes it my new expereince for this weeks theme. My lovely hand model Mike, convienientlky hiding his scarred up thumb, helped me pop a lot of balloons this evening (I probably should have made my "new experience" not waiting till the last minute). I might have to try this again with bigger balloons. These tiny water balloons pop so quickly that it was hard to even get the ballon remnants in the shot. #water #pop #balloon #freezemotion #52frames #52project #52frames_anewexperience #flash
It was interesting taking long exposure shots of these color changing lights. I never knew what color the final image would show as they combined in camera. Solar lights in the garden. #solarlights #mushrooms #color #sonkandoeverywhere #sweepstakes @sonyalpha #52frames #52project
Almost ready to bloom along the banks of Lake Logan. #flowers #buds #52project #52frames #52frames_RuleofOdds #green
Kayak and Canoe ready for launch. I had set up my camera with these forground elements in view thinking they made a nice focal element for a time lapse video. Little did I know their owners would be taking them out near dark to get closer to the Purple Martin flocks that would be coming in at dusk. Many people go out closer to the islands so the birds are flying all around them as the sun sets. It was cool seeing it from shore and seeing thousands of birds fly over head and out around the islands. I can understand the appeal of being out on the lake closer to the action though. #wildbird #migration #ohio #portagelakes #nimisilareservoir #canoe #purplemartin #52project #52frames #52frames_commonobject
Playing a bit with shadows. This combines 5. Shoot from Above, 8. Pairs, 9. Extreme contrast(studio lighting), 11, Triangular compostiion(studio setup) 25. Make a background, 26. Flashlight, 35. Common object(one light source). I first did a shot without the plate and noticed the curved shadows looked snake like then decided to reshoot on a plate for the bad pun.(My husbands idea). Then I converted to Black and white in post and boosted the contrast. #silverware #shadows #triangle #highcontrast #shotfromabaove #52frames #52project #
This beauty has taken up residence between our van and the garage. Luckily for her we don't have plans to go anywhere soon. #bandedgardenspider #52project #52frames #gardenspider #spider #orbweaver #spiderweb #yellowspider #52frames_singlefocalpoint
Motion, even fabricated motion can be fun to play with. The lights and motion blur in this picture came from several different exposures and a little paint was added in post.
I didn't have access to the internet for last weeks 52Frames picture, so I am posting it today with number 42. This was shot through a crystal ball and the image was then flipped. #52frames #shootthrough #crystalball #waterfall #westvirginia #hollyriverstatepark #statepark #upperfalls #fallcolors #autumn #mountainstreams
I spent most of the week in the woods and eating camp food, but we were hiking, stumbling and tripping on "food" the whole time we were in the woods so I decided to post some of that food for this weeks challenge. Squirells, turkey, chipmunks, deer and lots of other creatures in the woods will be enjoying this Autumn's bounty.
Trees are fading fast, but there were still a few colors around the ponds at Boch Hollow. #52frames_reflections #52project #bochhollow #statenaturepreserves #ohio #reflections #fallcolors #aroundthepond #printsavailable #autumn

Driving home from a hike on Thursday I saw this shed and had to stop. #signs #52frames_signs #decorations #refreshments #rustic #ruralart
I had to borrow my husbands phone for this one, as mine wouldn't focus on the window. We went from rain and wind to sun, then rain and wind, then sun followed by cold. Felt like the beginning of winter out there today. #raindrops #52frames_mobilephone #fall #autumn #52project #rainyday
