We started our morning with a 4.4 mile hike to the Window. At 4600 ft elevation, we found that we are really out of shape. The higher elevation combined with the heat of the day was enough hiking for us…
By 2:30 we were back at camp and after a short rest we decided a car trip along the Ross Maxwell scenic drive was our best bet. We stopped and did some short hikes to see some old ranch ruins and made our way down to Santa Elena Canyon and the Rio Grande River to watch the sunset.
About an hour and a half later we were back at camp cooking a quick meal. A storm moved in with a lot of wind, but just a little rain. It was a pretty sleepless night in the tent.
