About

Welcome to Sue Finch Photography and Design LLC

The desire to capture the beauty, variety, and intricate detail of the natural world while in my teens turned into a lifelong pursuit. Much of my current work focuses on Ohio Nature Preserves and Parks, and the plants and animals I encounter there.
As a member of the Mount Pleasant Photography Club, the Canal Winchester Art Guild, the Hocking Hills Artists and Craftsmen Association, and the Hocking Valley Photo Group, I am always learning new techniques. I haven’t yet met an art form I didn’t like. Much of my art involves photography, but I also enjoy painting. While I usually use my photos for reference, I enjoy more loose forms of painting like acrylic pouring and gel printing as well.
I also experiment with digital alterations of my photos to help better emphasize subjects that are more likely to blend with their environment. The details of an insect’s wings or the complexity of a bird’s feathers takes on new meaning when separated from the busy background of a forest or field.
My series of large multi row panoramic caves from the Hocking Hills has allowed me to capture images more like our eyes can see and has pushed the limits of my computer.
I hope that when people view my work they see complexities that they may not have noticed before-the harshness of a hawk eating its kill, the lush greenness of a lesser visited stream, the changing of the seasons through early spring flowers and baby birds, the delicateness of raindrops on midsummer blooms, the changing colors of a fall landscape, and winters ice-and will come away with a new appreciation of the need to protect and conserve the amazing resources around us.
My goal is for my work to inspire my audience to go out, observe, and experience the beauty of nature for themselves.

I have won several awards, including First Place and Best of Show in the Ohio State Fair Photography contest(2014), and several awards at the Fairfield County Fair. In 2017 my photo of Rock Mill was made into a mural in downtown Canal Winchester on the south side of the Chase Bank on High Street, and in 2018 my Ash Cave in Winter layered pano was made into a mural on the side of Dr. Quinlan’s office on Waterloo street.

Most of my pictures can be printed as standard 5×7, 8×10, and 11×14 prints, and some can go much larger. If you see something you like or have questions you can e-mail me or visit my Facebook page or Instagram.
