We got up early and packed up camp, got a quick breakfast and were back at the caves by 9 am. There was a blustery wind blowing and the sky was grey, so it was a good day to go underground. We hiked down the natural entrance to the cave taking lots of pictures along the way. We were scheduled for the 10:30 Ranger guided tour of the Kings palace so we hurried along the last part of the trail so we would make it on time. We had a great tour.
A quick snack was needed by the time it was over, besides you have to eat underground don’t you?
Then we explored the Big room. I took way too many pictures, but that was probably a good thing because many of them were blurred. I didn’t bring my tripod so I was also using a high ISO. They are cool, but nothing I will be printing big here.
At 4 we took the elevator back up 750′ to have an early dinner at the visitor center. The sun was shining and it had actually turned into a nice day. Then we drove to Guadalupe National Park in hopes of finding a camping spot. They were all full and from what we could see we weren’t going to be able to do much at the park without a lot of hiking so it is off to Roswell NM.
Shortly after crossing back into New Mexico we came across a guy who had just hit a deer. Mike helped him get it off the road. By 8:30 we were in Roswell at a hotel.
