We started the day with the International UFO Museum in Roswell. It was an interesting place with large libraries of UFO reports and information. There was definitely some sort of cover up of something in Roswell. Whether it was aliens, or experimental testing etc. , we will probably never know. It was a fun place to visit.
We did a little shopping for souvenirs and then headed out towards White Sands National Monument.
We had a short stop at Pistachio Land in Alamagordo, NM, home of the giant Pistachio. Something to munch on for the rest of the trip.
We got to White Sands around 4 and explored a little before going on the Sunset guided tour. The dunes are made of Gypsum which gives them their white color. The high water table sticks the sand together which keeps it from disappearing with the wind. We learned about similar dune areas in Mexico that are disappearing because people have used the water. This area doesn’t have that threat because the surrounding land is a U.S. Military bombing range. I guess that is a good thing? Gates are locked at 7, so we headed out to Socorro NM for the night.
