Side Trips – Red Gulch Dinosaur Track site

A newer park, these dinosaur tracks were reported 1997 although ranchers and natives knew about their existence they just didn’t think they were that important. In 2002, the site was renovated with a new boardwalk, interpretive signs, picnic tables, benches, trails, and upgraded parking. It was a quick decision to take the turn off our route, but we were glad we did. We were the only ones at this relatively new park.

The view on the way in.
Walking in the tracks of dinosaurs
The light was pretty harsh that day, but you can just make out the depression of a dinosaur foot.
Looking for shell fossil in the culvert.
The road out.

We had a long drive between Devil’s Tower and Yellowstone National park, so even though this was a bit out of our way it was a fun place to get out and stretch a bit along the way.
