I managed to get 51 pictures for this project. I’m not sure how I totally forgot Rule of Odds, but it probably had something to do with the Holidays…but it is the only one I didn’t get taken. I had a couple I didn’t post on time, and a couple that, after having missed the deadline, I didn’t post at all. Hopefully 2023 will finally get me “Framer” status on the 52Frames site.
My first shot for the 52 project, with my least favorite category for pictures.
4. Agave Shadows – 52frames – Minimalism ”
Hiking in the middle of the day at Big Bend National Park, harsh shadows played across the indentations in the Agave.

This scene was almost Black and White without much adjustment. The recent ice storm, and power outage, had me wondering If I would get this posted, but luckily the power is back on, and life can get back to almost normal. These guys come to Ohio for the winter, but this year he might be wondering if he should gone further south. #52frames #junco #icestorm #ohio #wildbirds #blackandwhite #backyardbirds
I originally thought I would do a shallow depth of field, but I wasn’t liking the result, so I decided to go the opposite direction and do a focus stack to keep everything in crisp focus. This is the second time I have gotten this orchid to rebloom and the longest I have managed to keep an orchid alive. Most of my houseplants have to thrive on neglect…but this orchid seems to be OK with minimal care so far. Some of the parts in the foreground needed some manual stacking, but I finally got the image in full focus. this was lit with a flashlight, keeping the background dark. #focusstack #orchid #52frames #phaleanopsis
While I had done this trail before, Mike and the Dogs had never been to Mambourg Park. There are two trails there and one allows dogs, so we took them out for a short hike.Tucker usually takes the spotlight, but this time i tried carefully to get a picture of Cody. While he looks a bit grumpy, he actually had a great time. #mambourgpark #fairfieldcountyparks #hikingwithdogs #muddy #funonthetrail #exploring #52frames
I have a whole series of Teddy pictures, but he has been staying home for a long time. I was going to take him to Texas with us, but he never made it out to the van. So this week he was finally allowed out to go on adventures. Here he is checking out the Mink Hollow Covered Bridge…since I forgot to get him out during the hike. Poor Teddy looks a little disappointed. LOL #teddy #teddybear #minkhollowcoverredbridge #coveredbridges #christmasrocknaturepreserve #ohio
A recent critique session gave me this idea to focus on the shadows of the reflection. It’s sort of wild how the mirror reacts to the reflections of the objects. #reflection #52frames_reflections
This is a composite image, adding the flame to this LED lantern. It was also a long exposure that was light painted with a short burst of flashlight to keep the dark areas dark but give some highlights. It was also adjusted in post with a heavy vignette. #lantern #lowkey #52frames_lowkey #moody #stilllife #composite #lightpainting #longexposure
Crazy week, and I was at the show all weekend, so this picture from the show is an activity. It was actually a presentation on Lighting.
A 30 second exposure with a flash from a flashlight and lightpainting with a blue glowstick.
Cody hasn’t been feeling very good. I was trying to capture his grumpy face, but then he stuck his tougue out. #grumpydog #52Frames_emotion #dogs

It’s been windy the last few days and my Bleeding hearts have been a bit roughed up. Hand held focused stacked image.
I got out the old oil lamp to do a little crafting. Heating wax in a kistka to try my hand at Pysanky, a Ukranian Egg decorating art.
We took a quick trip up to Maumee Bay over the weekend. Not the best weather, but we saw a few warblers and had a couple of nice hikes. Maumee had a few downed trees from the storm that came through last August, but not nearly as bad as Magee Marsh. It will be interesting to watch the area regrow. The warblers will probably still love it, but for birders the large amount of debris on the ground will probably make spotting birds a lot harder. #leadinglines #52frame_leadinglines #boardwalk #marshlands #wildohio #maumeebay #earlyspring
It been a busy week, but I knew the Lilacs were starting to fade and I needed a Flay Lay for my 52 Frames. This is part of my Alphabet series. #lilac #springflowers #52frames_flatlay #alphabet #treeflowers #springtime #prints available.
Living in an small older town, there are some very interesting old houses. This house was in very bad repair and either had been condemned or was close to it, before it was purchased by a couple that lovingly restored it. #52frames_Architecture #oldhouses #restoration #historichouses #bremenohio #blueskies #earlyarchitecture #smalltowns
Out at Howard Marsh this week I noticed the interesting pattern the dried reeds and waves were making in the marsh. #abstract #waves #howardmarsh #lakeeriebirdingtrail #marsh #52frames_abstract
Pep Ventosa yakes multiple images of a subject and combines them with transparency layers to make soft, dreamy pictures. The first two photographers generated were fasion photographers and I just don’t have the models to pull that off. Pep, was the third one that came up, so I figured I could try his technique on my indoor orchids. This is a combination of 5 images.
Wild onions will sprout before the seeds (bulblets) even drop to the ground. I thought a macro shot of this one would be fun to focus on. I used a strong light and a high f stop with a black backdrop. Then darkened the background even more in post. #wildonion #macro #52Frames_everythinginfocus #blackbackground #onions #growingplants #green #aliens
After the rain today i finally went out looking for triangles. I did some color changes in post to add interest. #redbud #52frames_triangularcomposition #leaves #waterdrop #botanical
I went around the yard this evening shooting several flowers from above. The thistle bud seemed to be the most interesting of the bunch. #thistle #52Frames_shootfromabove #flowers #flowerbud #fuzzyflowers #purple

I’ve been busy getting ready for a big show this next weekend so today’s pattern is a picture of a stack of notebooks that I am preparing for sale with my artwork on it. #notebooks #alteredwhitebalance #bluelight #patterns #52frames_patterns #spiralnotebooks
Out at Lilyfest i had the chance to go take a few pictures while my husband watched my booth…I totally forgot about this weeks challenge, so for this picture I took the picture into photoshop and masked the flower and blurred the background mutilple times to make it stand out. Eventually I will replace with a white background for a new card series. #lily #daylily #gardenflowers #negativespace #gausianblur #bloom #52Frames_negativespace
This shot was was done in front of a studio lght box th create a quick silluoette. I did have to darken the darks and lighten the lights a bit to creat good contrast and make the green of some of the leaves disappear. #silhouette #dahlia #highcontrast #studiolighting #flowersilhoutte
Lots of layers and last minute adjustments, but I finally got something acceptable. I may revisit this idea again when I have more time. #fireball #productphotography #composite #stuffonfire #52frames_commonobject.
This little one was hanging out with me while I did a project on the patio. I used a shallow depth of field and leading lines to draw the viewers eye into the frame. #jumpingspider #spider #52frames_singlefocalpoint #shallowdepthoffield #natureinthebackyard #cute #hangingout
I saw these little guys destroying plants in my garden. They definitely blend in well. I wouldn’t have noticed them except for the dead leaves on my sunflower. #gardenpest #insects #green #52Frames_chooseacolor #camouflage
Done on my table in the dark, I lit these paper forms with several different colors of light and then combined them with layer masks to blend multiple colors into the image. A balck mask was used to darken the background and table.
Mildly interesting water drops. Without the fancy timers and dropper, getting interesting watre drops is pretty hard. I did learn in my research that the really cool patterns you see withflat splashes are actually well timed collisions that are very hard to do without special gear. This is what I got with a baster and 1/8000 shutter on burst mode. Wter has red and blue food coloring. Ususally the action is frozen with a flash, but because the challenge was 1/8000 I just went with that and lots of light. #water #waterdrops #lowtech #foodcoloring #splishsplsh
Getting out in nature, even if for a short time, always brings me peace. This particular area of Pickerington Ponds is a nice place to relax between meetings. The shaded bridge provides place to sit and watch for wildlife even on rainy days. Luckily this Saturday the weather was nice when I stopped in after my workshop. The normal water birds made themselves scarce, but I did get to watch a hummingbird visiting the Jewel weed for a bit. #pickeringtonpondsmetropark #peaceful #52frames_peace #columbusmetroparks #intheshade #fluffyclouds #reflections #relaxinginthepark
My daughter Jessica edited this picture, giving it a more cohesive orange hue. If you haven’t been out in the woods lately, the fall wildflowers are bursting with color now. “ 36. Shrooms – Golden Hour ”
Taken a little bit before golden hour, but most of our “golden hours” this week have been too cloudy to get the true color. This was tweaked a little in post to enhance the golden color on the surrounding foliage. #mushrooms #fungus #goldenhour #52frames_goldenhour #orange #hiddeninthewoods #shawneestatepark
This image is lit with a flashlight. I was very disappointed that i forgot to post last week, as I was in the high 40’s…so I start again back to 1. This little cornhusk doll was from a very talented artist at the HHACA Fall show where I spent my weekend. My husband bought it as a gift for a coworker who loves witches. I decided to take a few shots of it before it goes to its home. I will post this one and a version with more lights that I like better, on my FB page later in the week after he has given his gift.
I’ve actually been working on a letter project for about a year. Jewelweed was one flower I had not gotten yet, the 52Frames challenge got me moving on it. I also did I – for Impatiens – the plant’s genus, and T for touch-me-not which is another common name for this plant because once the seed pods are ripe they explode when touched, propelling the seeds everywhere. As I was picking these flowers the plant would shake enough that I could hear a cascade of seeds shooting around. #touchmenot #impaitienspalida #impatiens #jewelweed #wildflowers #nativeflowers #ohionativeplants #letters #52frames_letters #personalprojects

While most of the flowers have died back due to a few frosts, my zinnias are still putting on new blooms. Some do have a bit of frost damage, but with the rain tonight and the warm temperatures expected for most of the next week, they should be around a while. Another flashlight shot taken on Sunday at 10pm…because I almost forgot. LOL #zinnias #flowersintherain #52frames_details #pink #macro #flashlightphotography #
The mixture of leaves turning, seeds being formed and dropping from the plants, while some flowers still bloom, makes for a chaotic transition between the seasons. This is a multiple exposure of plants in the yard today. #multiexposure #composit #fallplants #flowers #chaos #52frames_chaos
I haven’t been in town much, so this is a literal interpretation of “Street Photography.” Luckily there was no one behind me so I was able to stop in the road to take this shot through the windshield (in between the strokes of the wiper blades) with my cell phone. #52frames_streetphotography #rainyfallday #thedrivehome #errandsinthecountry #cellphonephotography #throughthewindshield #seasonschange #fog #mist

Extra credit was abandoned buildings so i went down to the old lumber yard building in town. Still used as an RV storage area, so not entirely abandoned, but has definitely seen better days. It was in operation when we first moved here, but they couldn’t compete with the big box stores. The gaps in the siding from shrinkage over time really caught my eye, along with the peeling paint. Sharpening and color adjustments for added interest. #wabisabi #52frames_wabisabi #peelingpaint #oldbuildings #naturereturns #decay #byGoneEra
This is a composite image…they don’t get along. Peach is pretty sure she doesn’t like dogs. LOL. I was able to pose them both in the same place and then composite them together for this shot though. The Summer reading program theme is All Together now…so I’m working up some ideas. Peach is still looking for her forever home. #composit #catsofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #animals #52frames_animals #pictureaday #pets #cats #dogs #petsofinstagram #gettingalong
Way back in Highschool I did an Up-A-Tree series, and i add to it every once in a while. Shoot from Below seemed like a good oportunity to add to the series. This is a 600 plus year old tree in Logan Ohio. Finding a good angle to shoot using the limited angle of my cell phone camera (I forgot my “real” camera) and still show some of the sweeping branches was a challenge. I also didn’t know where the HDR setting was on my phone (had to look it up after I got home-so next time I can try it), so I adjusted the exposure manually and took multiple shots trying not to move, and combined in post. This was the only one of several sets of shots that I could get to combine properly. Someday, when the sky is bluer, I will need to return with my wide angle on my camera and try again, but I’m liking the tones of the leaves on this one, and the phones built in sharpening(I didn’t add any) gives many of the branches a painted look that is interesting. #loganoak #bigtreesofohio #loganohio #oldoak #52frames_shootfrombelow #hdr #cellphonephotography #trees #lookup #branches #earlywinter #fallleaves #printsavailable #buylocal #earlydecember #historyconnection

Break the rules with camera motion for extra credit. Christmas lights.
The first time I did the Shoot from Below challenge I only had my cell phone and i commented that I should redo it when the sky had more color and I had my “real” camera…so the Re-do challenge had me revisiting the Logan Oak. #upatree #bigtreesohio #oaktrees #shootfrombelow #lowangle #dontlookup #oldtrees #bark #wintertrees Like this: Like Loading...
